Don Seenu(Telugu) Movie Preview:
RR Movie Makers join hands with Ravi Teja after their blockbuster ‘Kick’ for yet another masala entertainer, ‘Don Seenu’ that’s directed by Gopichand Malineni. The first point of appreciation that will be shown on the debutant director would be his understanding of Ravi Teja’s acting prowess. Gopichand has fully utilized the high-on-energy hero in this out and out commercial entertainer. Even Ravi Teja’s title in the cards has the ‘Mass Raja’ tag along with his name…perhaps for the first time!
The Gist of the movie
As told in the ‘Don Seenu’ preview in IndiaGlitz, Ravi Teja’s a hardcore Amitabh Bachchan fan whose ambition is to be a ‘don’. His name is Seenu but he likes to be called ‘Don Seenu’. He is a shrewd and adamant guy. The hero’s characterization has been designed well and tailor made for Ravi Teja. So back to the story, being a film addict the hero runs away from home to return later as a wannabe don.
Voice of Jagapathy Babu comes up for the narration and interestingly only a couple of lines. May be his voice was used to live up to the hype of using hero’s voices as narration.
He rings up his childhood buddies in Hyderabad – Ali and others, and tells his aspiration to them. So here starts the fun ride, does he become a don? Answer at a screen near you! Well to unfold the plot in the review is quite a hectic thing, as twists and turns keep coming at irregular intervals in the movie! So where does heroine Shriya fit in? Introduced here are dons of Hyderabad – Siyaji Shinde and Sri Hari as Madhapur Machi Raju and Narayanaguda Narsing respectively. Shriya is Shinde’s sister and the other heroine Anjana Sukhani is Sri Hari’s sister. Both the Hyderabad Dons work for an international don played by Mahesh Manjrekar.
Who does Ravi Teja fall for? Oops who falls for Ravi Teja? This is fun so don’t expect us to spoil it! In the process of fulfilling his ambitions, Ravi Teja two-times his work for both Shinde and Sri Hari. There’s a flashback which is the ultimate reason for this two-timing. Ravi Teja’s after a goal, so how does he succeed forms the main plot of the movie! Sounds complicated but Ravi Teja fans can bear it!
Gopichand Malineni, as said earlier, has fully utilized Ravi Teja. Looks like the director completely admires his hero that the screen shows him larger than life, just like how stars in Indian cinema are shown!
Gopichand has made sure Ravi Teja’s body language, dialogue delivery, fights, dance, etc are all similar to the latter’s previous movies. So the audience gets to see the clichéd Ravi Teja yet again! Well, if you aren’t really bored of the stereotype Ravi Teja movie then you can sit patiently all throughout the three hours odd movie.
Performances of actors
Veteran Sri Hari and experienced actor Siyaji Shinde are doing their characters for the n’th time. So no variety but Sri Hari’s Telangana dialect is flawless and Shinde’s expressions are enjoyable. The heroines Shriya and Anjana have done a decent job, given their character’s scope. This is Shriya’s come back vehicle to Telugu. Let’s see how far she’ll go after this!
Comedy in the movie is abundant in the form of Ali, Venu Madhav, Bramhanandam along with the lead cast. Giggles and laughs keep springing up but the maximum comes in the second half of the movie especially when Bramhanandam appears.
The strength of this movie is Ravi Teja, if not for him and his antics the movie wouldn’t magnetize attention; the other respite is the camera of Sameer Reddy, who’s done a terrific job. Circumstances lead Ravi Teja to go to Germany (what circumstances? You know our answer.) and hence he along with the two heroines travels throughout Europe. The beautiful locations of Spain, Switzerland, etc are beautifully captured by the cinematographer.
Mani Sharma’s background music is ideal for the screenplay yet his songs for the movie didn’t seem so attractive. Talking about attractive, besides the foreign locations, the sets of songs designed by art director AS Prakash is eye catching. The art director has received extraordinary support by his producers who haven’t compromised on production qualities.
The Report Card
Gopichand Malineni is a debutant director yet he’s managed to use the expertise of an experienced cast as well as a strong technical team. His screenplay is an eyesore. The first half had less to offer and the second half of the movie had so much to show, so his story allotment could have been better.
Dialogues of the movie are apt. Humour laced dialogues along with serious punch dialogues cover the flaws in the screenplay. Fights in the movie, especially a fight where Ravi Teja fights in a construction site, have been shot excellently.
Editing was a blunder. Songs in wrong places of the movie made the audience leave a huge sigh of contempt. Mani Sharma’s songs were just about ok with hero’s introduction song sounding attractive of the lot.
So the plus points as written before, camera, comedy and Rav
Verdict:Time Pass
